About Us

Forum of Conscience [FOC] is a non-profit international non-governmental organisation registered with the Ministry of Development and Economic Planning.

FOC came into existence in 1996 with the following objective:
To help strengthen democratic initiatives, rule of law and respect for human and people‘s rights within the context of Sierra Leone.

It specializes in the following activities in a bid to achieving its set objective:

  • Women and Children’s rights
  • Accessing the Africa Commission on Human and People’s rights and other international Human rights mechanism
  • Campaigning for and soliciting support for victims of torture, journalists and other human beings at work
  • Research and Advocacy
  • Transitional Justice
  • Most significantly Forum of Conscience facilitates freedom of expression and access to information at grassroot levels among women and other beneficiaries leading to development in their communities. This is done primarily through the Development through Radio [DTR] project.

Forum of Conscience operates nationwide with offices in Freetown (Western Area) Makeni (Northern Province) and Moyamba in the southern Province as well as a community radio station “ Voice of Women” Mattru Jong (Southern Province). It implements its programmes through teams of consultants and staff members. The day-to-day activity is managed by a management team and staff led by the Executive Director.

Vision

By 2008 Forum of Conscience will be the leading organisation advocating for human and people’s rights issues in Sierra Leone.

Fields of Activity

  • Advocate for the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report
  • Advocacy and lobbying on respect for human and people’s rights in Sierra Leone
  • Community and peer Mediation
  • Conduct Training on Human Rights for NGOs and Communities
  • Community Policing

Target Groups

In School Youths and people living in rural communities. Special focus is also given to special Categories of people such as women, children and the disabled.
